Resident Adviser

Residential Life employs 145 students as Resident Advisers (RAs). Among the entire population of 5,500 undergraduate students, our RAs emerge as leaders within the Columbia community. RAs develop a healthy community by focusing on the growth and development of each individual on their hall and promote an environment conducive to the overall wellness needs of residents. RAs are creative and energetic students who are strong team players and great listeners.

Candidates applying for the FSL RA position also have the opportunity to be considered for an RA position within a different area of Residential Life if not selected as an FSL RA. 

Qualifications

FSL RA applicants must be:

  • Current, full-time first-year, sophomores, or juniors;
  • Current CC or SEAS students;
  • An active member of your chapter;
  • Guaranteed undergraduate housing;
  • In good academic standing with a minimum GPA of 2.5;
  • In good behavioral standing;
  • In good community standing;
  • Not found responsible for violations of the Gender-Based Misconduct Policy.

September 23: Information Session held from 12:00pm-1:00pm in Broadway 120

September 27: Information Session help from 9:00pm-10:00pm in Broadway 14th Floor East Lounge

October 5 at 11:59pm: All FSL RA Applications are due

October 16: FSL RA Selection Process and Interviews

October 20: Status notifications sent to candidates

October 19: Applications for the 2016-17 academic year RA positions were available.

November: MANDATORY information sessions will be held throughout campus for students who are not participating in the RA Seminars.

December 1st at 11:59pm: All RA applications are due. 

December 7-January 22: Individual interviews are held. 

December 11: Mini-selection process is held for students who are unable to attend the regular selection process. These students include those who will be studying abroad for Spring 2016; athletes with scheduled games on Sunday, January 24th between 9:00am and 2:00pm; and religious exemptions. 

January 24: Regular RA Selection Process.

January 26: Status notifications are sent to candidates. 

February 1: Final candidate fair. 

February 11: Final status notifications are sent to candidates. 

 

Selection Seminar- CLOSED

Prior to the selection process, Residential Life will be hosting an optional four-week long seminar that will prepare students for the selection process. The seminar will run from the end of October until the Thanksgiving Break. 

Successful completion of the seminar will result in a notation being applied to their RA Application that will increase their prospect of being hired. 

October 8: Sign ups for the seminar have been CLOSED.

October 19: Confirmation of seminar assignments will be sent out to candidates. 

October 21-28: Seminar One

November 4-10: Seminar Two

November 11-17: Seminar Three

November 18-24: Seminar Four
