Professor Ioannis (John) Kymissis is the Faculty-in-Residence for the Living Learning Center (LLC). With his wife, Carissa Kymissis and their four children, the Kymissis’s live in Hartley Hall. Professor Kymissis graduated with his S.B., M.Eng., and Ph.D. degrees from MIT, and is a senior member of the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers. Prior to joining Colum bia, Kymissis spent three years as a post-doc in MIT's Laboratory for Organic Optics and Electronics working on a variety of organic electronic devices.
Professor Kymissis is an assistant professor of electrical engineering at Columbia Engineering. His area of specialization is solid state electronics and device fabrication. He researches thin film devices and systems, especially focusing on optoelectronic and sensing devices based on organic and amorphous metal oxide thin film materials. Current areas of research include investigations into device performance, fabrication, packaging, and device driving.
Professor Kymissis hosts a series of events including dinners with special guests (faculty and other well-known people from all fields), study breaks, and other social and intellectual programs aimed at enhancing the academic climate of the residence halls.
