2020 Jumpstarting Aspiring Developers and Entrepreneurs (JADE) Participant Application Form

Apply to the Jumpstarting Aspiring Developers and Entrepreneurs (JADE) program to participate in this incredible opportunity in New York City! This week-long program will take place Sunday, January 12Saturday, January 18. The deadline to apply is Wednesday, October 16.

All first-year students currently enrolled in Barnard College, Columbia College or Columbia Engineering are eligible for the program. Ideal participants are enthusiastic students who have had little exposure to the startup and tech worlds and students with varied backgrounds and interests. Students from all majors are encouraged to apply.

Please note that there is a $100 program fee, which covers food, housing, transit and activities. (Barnard students will have to pay an additional $50-$100 to cover the cost of early arrival winter housing.) We will be able to offer financial aid for accepted students with a demonstrated need. Please do not let cost prevent you from applying.

Submitting this application does NOT commit you to attending the program; if you are accepted, the option to attend is still your decision.

About the Program

As part of a small group of students, you'll be immersed in the startup ecosystem of NYC and learn about tech and entrepreneurship through visits with companies of all shapes and sizes, talks with founders and investors, and fun adventures throughout the city. You’ll leave with a much better idea of why startups are all the rage right now, an understanding of how you can dive into the industry and a group of new friends. You'll also have an opportunity to learn introductory web development and end the program with your own website on the internet. In previous years, we visited 12 different companies, including The New York Times and Facebook and investors like Betaworks and General Catalyst; went out at night to comedy clubs, slam poetry cafes and ice-skating rinks; and learned HTML, CSS, Javascript and Git!
