Panhellenic Association

The Panhellenic Association is the self-governing student organization that provides guidelines and support to its member sororites. Panhel consists of organizations with national membership in the National Panhellenic Conference. Each organization is represented at Panhel meetings to discuss and vote on matters concerning member organizations and the Greek community. Panhellenic assists in establishing guidelines for membership recruitment, service opportunities and social activities for NPC sorority members.

Recruitment

Formal Membership Recruitment is the main process by which Panhellenic chapters take in new members.  At Columbia, the process takes place over 5 days in late January. There are four main events: Philanthropy Round, Development Round, Preference Night and Bid Day.  The Columbia Panhellenic Council holds Formal Membership Recruitment in the spring semester each year. Register for Formal Panhellenic Recruitment.

A woman is eligible to participate in Formal Recruitment and join a sorority if she is enrolled at Columbia University as a full-time student and has completed one full academic semester of coursework. First-semester first-year students are ineligible. The lowest GPA requirement to join a women’s fraternity at Columbia University is 2.50. Individual chapters may have their own GPA and credit hour requirements above these campus minimum requirements.  These requirements will be communicated during recruitment.

A Potential New Member participating in Recruitment shall not be, or ever have been, an initiated member of an NPC fraternity.  Women in doubt should consult the Panhellenic Council before registering for recruitment.

A woman is ineligible for Membership Recruitment (Formal or Informal) if she has declined a Formal Membership Recruitment invitation or if she has been a new member of an NPC fraternity on the Columbia University campus within the same calendar year.
