Tibetan Music on In All Languages
This Sunday's In All Languages program will focus on exploring a variety of forms of Tibetan music, ranging from Buddhist ritual music, to opera, to contemporary recordings by Tibetan artists in exile. We will begin by listening to recordings of Buddhist rites performed by Tibetan monks in Bhutan, followed by a selection of other examples of Buddhist chants.
Carter Van Pelt's last show on Eastern Standard Time: Saturday August, 30th
WKCR is saddened to announce the departure of Eastern Standard Time regular host, Carter Van Pelt. Carter has been hosting the Saturday reggae show seven years ago and has been sharing every week his knowledge and love of the music for the pleasure of all of our listeners. He will be hosting his last show on Saturday, August 30th so tune in one last time to hear Carter Van Pelt on Eastern Standard Time!
All of WKCR staff wishes him the best of luck for his future endeavors and is confident that EST will continue on the path of high-quality set by Carter Van Pelt.

Chinese Classical Music on In All Languages
Tune in to this week IAL show as we will be looking at chinese classical music through several orchestral pieces. Chinese classical music draws its roots in the music played in royal courts using specific instruments such as the Yangquin or the Shen. Chinese classical music re-emerged in the 20th century after taking on the structure of the Western Orchestra. Most of the pieces evoque a story, often linked to folkolric legends or narrating major historical events.
John Zorn and Erik Friedlander on Afternoon New Music
Tune in at 3PM this Monday, August 25th, as we are joined by John Zorn and Erik Friedlander for our Afternoon New Music program. They will join us to speak about Zorn's upcoming week at the Village Vanguard, where he will be playing at the legendary venue for the first time. Zorn is a prolific composer and performer who has had a prolific and diverse career in jazz, classical, and avant-garde music. Zorn has been a friend of WKCR for many years, since making his first recordings at our studios in the late 70's, and we are glad to have him back to talk about his current projects. Listen!
Tribute to Licia Albanese, Carlo Bergonzi, and Cristina Deutekom on Saturday Night at the Opera
Tune in to Saturday Night At The Opera for a special tribute to three operatic titans who passed away recently: Licia Albanese; Carlo Bergonzi; and Cristina Deutekom. Each of these extraordinary singers contributed near definitive performances in their respective repertoires, and we will take a special look at each one's unique contributions to the world of opera. Kane Mathis & Brandon Terzic on the African Show: Thursday, August 21st at 10PM
Tonight's African Show, hosted by David Ellenbogen will feature a live performance from the duo of Kane Mathis (on the 21-string Mandinka Harp) and Brandon Terzic (Ngoni )
Kane began taking trips to The Gambia, West Africa in 1997 and has continued rigorous study of the Mandinka Kora. Over the past ten years his performances have earned him recognition by the Gambian president, The Gambian minister of culture, and both national television and radio of The Gambia.
Nelson Angelo on Som do Brasil
Tune in this Wednesday starting at 10pm to listen to a live in-studio interview with Nelson Angelo. Mr. Angelo is releasing a new album called "Times Square" which features collaborations with Milton Nascimento and Vanessa Falabella, to name a few. Nelson Angelo was part of Clube da Esquina in the 1970s with Milton Nascimento, Lo Borges, Wagner Tiso, Fernando Brant, among others. He also recorded an album with his ex-wife Joyce.
Tribute to Graciela on Caribe Latino
Tune in this Monday, August 18th, from 10pm to 1am to listen to the music of Graciela Peréz-Gutierrez, the First Lady of Latin Jazz. She would be celebrating her 99th birthday on August 23rd. We will be playing her music and also an interview recorded on WKCR with German Santana, Louis Laffitte and Deborah Resto.

Ras Moshe on The Musician's Show: Wednesday August 13 from 6-9 PM
Join us this Wednesday evening for a special edition of the Musician's Show where we are joined by saxophonist and multi-instrumentalist Ras Moshe. He will be here to discuss his music and his time as a key player in the avant garde jazz scene, selecting the evening's music from his own catalogue in addition to that of his inspirations, influences, and contemporaries. Born and raised in New York, Ras has performed with the likes of William Hooker, Sabir Mateen, Steve Swell, and Marc Edwards. Tune in to hear his music and his musical thoughts and to share in a night of great jazz.

If you haven't heard João Gilberto on Jazz Profiles this past Sunday, here's your chance. If you have, here's your chance to listen to what was not played as well as to a new interview. The musical journalist Sue Cassidy Clark, who coordinated the production of the album "João Gilberto" released in 1973 by Polydor will join us for Nueva Canción y Demás and Som do Brasil this Wednesday from 10pm to 1am. Philip White on Live Constructions
Tune in to this Sunday's Live Constructions for an in-studio live set by electronic musician Philip White. Through using a variety of electronic modules, White explores the autonomic and chaotic behavior of electronic systems, creating an aggressive and explosive sound. He has collaborated with a variety of different musicians in the noise, jazz, and contemporary concert music scenes. White will be bringing his set-up to our studios, and we will broadcast his solo performance live as it happens. Listen!
Willie Colon on Caribe Latino
Tune in this Monday, August 11th, at 10pm on Caribe Latino to listen to a live interview with Willie Colón. Legendary salsa singer and trombonist, he recorded his first album at the age of 17 and since then has collaborated with great figures such as Héctor Lavoe, Celia Cruz, Ismael Miranda, among others. The show Caribe Latinos is hosted by German Santana and Louis Lattiffe.
Fabian Almazan on the Musician's Show
This week on the Musician's Show, we are joined by pianist Fabian Almazan. As our guest host for the evening, he will take us through his career in music, sharing his own recordings in addition to the music of his influences and contemporaries. Almazan has studied with Mark Levine and performed with Dave Brubeck and Christian McBride as piano chair for the Brubeck Institute fellowship program, and has also studied with Kenny Barron at the Manhattan School of Music.
Joao Gilberto on Jazz Profiles
Tune in this Sunday from 2pm-7pm to listen to a Jazz Profiles dedicated to João Gilberto. The show will encompass from his early and rare recordings before Bossa Nova to his most recent solo album released in 2000 along with relevant historical background. We will also feature exclusive WKCR interviews with important characters that were involved with João Gilberto such as his son Marcelo Gilberto, the producer Creed Taylor, one of the Tropicália artists Gilberto Gil, and the Bossa Nova composer and pianist Antonio Adolfo.
