Offenbach's La Belle Hélène on SNO!

Though best known for Les Contes d'Hoffmann, Offenbach first rose to fame with a string of blockbuster operettas. Tune in to Saturday Night At The Opera to hear hisBelle Hélène, a delirious parody of the Trojan War. Marc Minkowski leads his Musiciens du Louvre with an all-star cast including Michel Sénéchal, Laurent Naouri, and Felicity Lott in the title role. Stepan Atamian hosts.

Curtis Nowosad on the Musician's Show

A Winnipeg native, Nowosad currently resides in New York City, and has performed at some of the city's best venues, including Smalls, Smoke, and Dizzy's Club Coca Cola, as well as jazz festivals in Canada, including Ottawa Jazz Festival and the Festival International de Jazz de Montréal.

Clark Terry Memorial Broadcast

Join us as we honor the life and work of Clark Terry, who passed away on Saturday, February 21st at the age of 94. With a career that spans more than 70 years, Clark Terry was an influential trumpeter, flugelhornist, educator, composer, writer, instrument designer, and NEA jazz master. Armida on Saturday Night At the Opera

The story of Armida has fascinated artists since the sixteenth century. From Lully to Judith Weir, composers are continually inspired by the love affair between the Saracen sorceress and the Crusader knight, Rinaldo. Using Haydn's Armida (in the Harnoncourt recording with Cecilia Bartoli, Christoph Prégardien, and Patricia Petibon) as a focal point, Saturday night's program will be an exploration of the various musical representations of the fantastical story. Join us Tuesday, January 17 during our Out to Lunch programming from 1-2:30 pm EST for an interview with New York-based jazz pianist Emmet Cohen regarding his most recent project "Masters Legacy Series featuring Jimmy Cobb." Cohen began Suzuki method piano instruction at age three, and his playing quickly became a mature melding of musicality, technique, and concept. He placed first in both the American Jazz Pianists competition (2014) and the Phillips Piano Competition at the University of West Florida (2011).

Gustav Leonhardt Memorial Broadcast

This Friday, January 20th, WKCR will be devoting over eleven hours of programming to the music of Gustav Leonhardt (5/30/1928-1/16/2012). As a harpsichordist, organist, and conductor, Leonhardt was on the forefront of the movement in early music to revive period styles and practices. While best known for his recordings of J.S. Bach, Leonhardt made spectacular recordings of many different early music and Baroque composers. Tune in from 9:30am-9:00pm to hear WKCR's tribute to this legendary musician.
