The story of Armida has fascinated artists since the sixteenth century. From Lully to Judith Weir, composers are continually inspired by the love affair between the Saracen sorceress and the Crusader knight, Rinaldo. Using Haydn's Armida (in the Harnoncourt recording with Cecilia Bartoli, Christoph Prégardien, and Patricia Petibon) as a focal point, Saturday night's program will be an exploration of the various musical representations of the fantastical story. Stepan Atamian hosts.
