Information for Columbia College First-Year Core Classes

The Frontiers of Science lecture is the same for all students and cannot be changed. Students may use the REPLACE function on SSOL to change their Frontiers of Science discussion sections or Literature Humanities class on their own.  If online replacement is not possible, students can submit a petition to the Core Office in 202 Hamilton to request a FOS section change starting September 5 at 9 AM.

Deadline Approaching for International University Writing Sections

First-year students must take University Writing in their first year at Columbia. A few international sections of University Writing are geared toward non-native speakers of English who wish to focus on issues of second-language acquisition and adjusting to a new academic culture.

Summer Bridge Program Help Room Tutor Application

Prior to fall enrollment, entering first-year program participants attend a mandatory five-week Summer Bridge Program offered through Academic Success Programs. Participants take courses in Calculus, Statistics, University Writing, Literature Humanities, Physics, Psychology, and Chemistry to prepare for the academic work required of Columbia students.
