The five Multicultural Affairs Student Coordinators will be primarily charged with supporting the development and implementation of programming in Multicultural Affairs and specifically assigned to one of the following focus areas within the office:
- Diversity Education / Disability Justice
- First-Generation and/or Low Income (FLI) @ Columbia
- International @ Columbia
- LGBTQ @ Columbia
- Students of Color (SOC) @ Columbia
- General: social media and communications
Each position will report to the Multicultural Affairs associate director who oversees their focus area, and each position will work closely with both the associate director and a graduate assistant to develop and implement programs.

Responsibilities and Duties
- Support the development, promotion and execution of Multicultural Affairs programs, resources and educational opportunities
- Propose, develop and implement event(s) in their focus area for the spring semester, after proven growth in event planning/programming knowledge
- Support preparation, implementation and/or analysis of relevant assessments, which includes programming assessments and/or campus climate assessments
- Provide administrative support for Multicultural Affairs
- Assist with social media and other communication
- Other duties as needed; opportunities to work on projects of interest
Qualifications
- Full-time Columbia College or Columbia Engineering undergraduate student enrolled for 2024–25
- Good University standing
- Ability to bring passion for social justice and community building into their work
- Desire to consistently grow and develop writing and speaking skills applied within public settings.
- Commitment to complete tasks in alignment with expectations from supervisor
- Ability to organize and manage multiple priorities/projects
- Computers skills: social media, desktop publishing, database management, Microsoft Office, G Suite, web applications
- Foundational knowledge of the community in their respective focus area
- Interest and willingness to continuously grow and develop their competencies in their focus area
- Interest in assessment, programming and general administrative support
- Openness to give and receive feedback to improve quality of work and experience
Preferred Skills and Experience
- Graphic design
- Prior connections to and involvement in Multicultural Affairs and the campus spaces/communities associated with their respective focus areas
- Facilitation skills
- Prior training or courses related to social identity, diversity and/or social justice
Time Commitment
Multicultural Affairs student coordinators will be required to:
- Work 10 hours per week, 12 weeks per semester
- Must be able for occasional evening programs or projects; schedules for these will be coordinated with your supervisor
- Hold weekly work hours during regular business hours, Monday–Friday, 9:00 a.m.–5:00 p.m., in coordination with your supervisor
- Participate in training for student coordinators (date to be determined)
- Participate in regular weekly check-in meetings with their supervisor
Compensation
- Multicultural Affairs student coordinators are paid at an hourly rate of $17.00 per hour
