This morning, we listened to some of the very different American voices that shaped not only the composed music tradition of the United States, but also a national sense of cultural and intellectual identity.
On Ives's piano sonata, we heard William Masselos on piano.
Crawford's violin and piano piece was performed by Ida Kavafian on violin and Vivian Fine on piano.
The Cowell symphony was performed by the Iceland Symphony Orchestra.
On Harrison's song cycle, "Strict Songs," the voice of Leroy Kromm, baritone, was heard alongside the USCSC Chamber Singers and Chamber Orchestra.
All of the solo Cage piano works we heard were played by Herbert Henck.
