This Cereal Music broadcast featured an interview with Jeffrey Milarsky, one of the leading conductors of contemporary music in New York City. He is conductor and senior lecturer at Columbia University and conductor of contemporary music ensembles at Juilliard and the Manhattan School of Music. He has conducted ensembles across the globe to critical acclaim, as well as being a well-established timpanist and percussionist with orchestras such as the New York Philharmonic and the Philadelphia Orchestra. Milarsky earned his bachelor's and master's degrees in music from the Juilliard School. He joined us to chat about his upcoming concerts in April with the Columbia University Orchestra and in May with the Los Angeles Philharmonic. Following the interview, we played the same program that Milarsky will conduct in Los Angeles, with Birtwistle's Three Settings of Celen, Messiaen's Oiseaux exotiques, and Magnus Lindberg's Joy.
