This week's program begins with the album The Parish Notice from Jez Lowe and the Bad Pennies. Jez Lowe is an English musician with Irish roots, whose music bears a certain Celtic influence. He is primarily known for compositions dealing with daily life in North-East England. Lowe performs both as a solo artist and with his backing band on guitar, harmonica, cittern, and piano.
Our second album is named after the 1866 Victor Hugo novel written while under exile in Guernsey: Les Travailleurs de la Mer: Ancient songs from a small island. This album continues the Celtic theme, and features the baroque guitar, shawm, cornetto and medieval harp. Andrew Lawrence-King, the director of the Harp Consort, hails from Guernsey, which is located off Cornwall.
From there, we turn to the polyphonic music of Geogia with the album Georgian Polyphony I: Choral music from Caucasia. This album features various choral groups from across Georgia.
