This Afternoon Classical program was birthday themed. Yesterday, June 17th was French composer Charles Gounod's birthday. Gounod was born on June 17th, 1818 in Paris. We celebrated his birthday by playing his beautiful Saint Cecilia Mass and his Symphony Number 1 in D. Today, June 18th, was Estonian composer and conductor Eduard Tubin's birthday. Tubin was born on June 18th 1905 and he would have been 110 years old today. We celebrated Tubin's birth by listening to his Symphony Number 2, 4, and 6. Happy Birthday Charles Gounod and Eduard Tubin!
