The School of Graduate Studies in the Health Sciences has established an internship program for training undergraduate students in the biomedical sciences. Interns are given hands-on experience in a biomedical laboratory and are encouraged to apply to PhD programs.

Eligibility: 
This program is open to students who have excelled in high school or in their undergraduate years in college. Applicants who are residents of the state of Mississippi are strongly encouraged to apply.

Since 1989, the University of Minnesota Life Sciences Summer Undergraduate Research Program (LSSURP) has offered life sciences programs for undergraduate students who have a goal of enrolling in Ph.D. and MD/PhD programs. LSSURP is supported by the University of Minnesota Medical School. The programs begin with a joint orientation weekend, followed by participation in a 10-week research project under the direction of a University of Minnesota faculty mentor and numerous special activities focused on professional development as well as social interaction. The summer research experience concludes with a poster symposium and banquet in August.

Only U.S. Citizens and Permanent Residents are eligible. If you will receive your Bachelor's degree before June 1, 2020 you are NOT eligible for LSSURP

Tufts University, Sackler School of Graduate Biomedical Sciences - Building Diversity in Biomedical Sciences Program

The Building Diversity in Biomedical Sciences (BDBS) Program offers a ten week, mentored research experience for students interested in pursuing future PhD or MD/PhD studies.  The Program typically begins around Memorial Day and ends in early August.  Trainees also attend scientific seminars and workshops on academic and career guidance, participate in organized social activities, and have free time to explore the Boston area. Trainees receive a $4,000 stipend, travel expenses within the US, and are provided with on-campus housing.

Eligibility: 
Applicants must have successfully completed at least one year of college and be US citizens or US permanent residents to participate in this summer program. Students who will graduate before the summer program starts are not eligible for BDBS, but might wish to consider our PREP program. The NIH and the Graduate School of Biomedical Sciences encourage applicants from members of groups that are under-represented in the biomedical sciences. The NIH has reported that groups under-represented in biomedical or behavioral research include African-American, Hispanic-American or Latino/a, American Indian, Alaskan Native, and Pacific Islander and members of economically disadvantaged families and disabled persons.

Our highly competitive ten-week Scientific Summer Scholars Program provides research training opportunities for top-tier students to gain research experience, enhance their preparation in applying to top graduate and professional programs, and expose them to NIBR's approaches to patient-driven research. Scholars work on their own project with the guidance of a NIBR scientist. NIBR's research covers many disease, science, and technology areas that allow us to closely match your specific interests with one of our labs.

Eligibility: 
Students who have completed at least three semesters or four quarters at an accredited U.S. college or university are welcome to apply. Ph.D. and M.D. students are not eligible for this program. Applicants must attend a university in a U.S. state or territory and be eligible to work in the United States. Students should have a strong desire to pursue graduate-level education in biological sciences, chemistry or computational sciences and have at least a G.P.A of 3.3 out of a 4.0 scale. Inclusion of the broadest slate of talent is very important to us. We encourage applications from talented individuals, among others, who are currently underserved in the sciences. Examples include first-generation college students, socioeconomically disadvantaged students, individuals with learning differences, and under-represented minorities.
