Matthew Patashnick, Ed.D., Associate Dean for Student & Family Support

College is a time of great change for students and their parents, families, loved ones, and support networks. That’s why we’re here. Student & Family Support helps Columbia students and families navigate the expected and unexpected parts of college life. My team and I provide multiple resources to address the needs of undergraduates including support, guidance, and involvement opportunities to families; case management and support to students who are in distress related to medical and psychological concerns, life traumas, and other barriers that impede their success; educational programming initiatives in order to promote a campus culture that supports the ways in which knowledge is shared, created, and evaluated; and we provide high level response to campus crisis situations. I live in the Morningside Heights neighborhood with my family and am excited to welcome you into our community.
Veronica Bjorkman, Director of Family Outreach & Support

I specifically work with families of students at Columbia College and Columbia Engineering. As a friendly mid-westerner from Illinois, now living in Washington Heights with my three wonderful cats, I’m here to get you connected with the various offices and resources on campus. Throughout your student’s experience here, you may have questions regarding academics, grades, dining, housing, and more. Ask me! I am always here to help.

Krystal Diaz, Assistant Director of Student Wellness

As a member of the Wellness team, I am here to support you by connecting you to university and community resources as well as providing space to have conversations on the experiential side of college. I run workshops on topics from how to make lasting social connections, to ways to explore New York City like a local, as well as running the Wellness Group. I am a native New Yorker and a Teachers College alum and love all things dance, music, philosophy, and history.

Stephanie N. King, LMSW, Assistant Dean for Student Wellness

I provide support to students who are working through medical and psychological concerns, life traumas, and other barriers that may impede their success. I am available to meet one-on-one with students to better understand a challenge they may be experiencing and develop an individualized plan utilizing the many supportive resources Columbia has to offer. Most importantly, I am an advocate for students, and my door is always open to provide empathetic support.
