WKCR will preempt all regular programming from noon to midnight on Friday, April 15th in order to celebrate the life and work of composer, violinist and minimalist pioneer Tony Conrad, who passed away on Saturday, April 9th, 2016 at the age of 76.
Both in his solo work and in frequent collaborations - with the likes of La Monte Young, John Cale, Charlemagne Palestine, Genesis Breyer P-Orridge, and more - Conrad forged new creative territory in both music and film, producing such seminal works as Four Violins (1964) and Outside the Dream Syndicate (1973). A central figure in the development of minimalist and drone music in the 60s and 70s, Conrad's influence on both popular and avant-garde music today is immeasurably great. Please join us as we celebrate Conrad's tireless commitment to innovation and art with over twelve continuous hours of his music, only at WKCR 89.9 FM.
