On our next Arts and Answers show, we welcome a special guest with whom we discuss his approach to music and his personal playing style that he named "Afro Tarab". To know more about this style and about the artistic journey of Tarek Yamani, please tune in this Thursday Jan 9th, at 9:30pm!
Tarek is a Lebanese self-taught jazz pianist and an award-winning composer who developped a personal composition and playing style, named Afro Tarab, that embodies Arabic rhythms and modes with the complex African American sounds of jazz and vice versa. He won the grand prize of the "Thelonious Monk Intl Jazz Composers Competition" as he was also invited to be among the 32 international musicians to represent the Arab world at the inauguaral of UNESCO's International Jazz Day at teh UN Assembly Hall in 2012. Tarek will be playing with his trio at Alwan for the Arts as part of the Third Annual Maqam Fest on Friday January 10th, starting at 7pm.
