Tuesday, November 10, 2015 - 6:00pm to 9:00pm
Today's Jazz Alternatives will feature a live, in-studio interview with Roswell Rudd, beginning at 7:30 pm. Active since the late 1950s, Rudd is known for his trombone playing and composition in free and avant-garde jazz. Founder of the New York Art Quintet, Rudd emerged from his roots in Dixieland music to become the greatest innovator in free jazz trombone playing. Along with his acclaimed skills in composition, also notable are his collaborations with many other big names of free and avant-garde jazz, including Cecil Taylor, Archie Shepp, John Tchicai and Steve Lacy. Rudd celebrates his 80th birthday this weekend with a concert at (Le) Poisson Rouge in Manhattan. Tune in tonight for a particularly exciting Jazz Alternatives!
