Pauline Oliveros Memorial Broadcast

Sunday, November 27, 2016 - 1:00pm to 11:59pm

Beginning at 1:00 PM today, WKCR will play the work of the late Pauline Oliveros without interruption until midnight in celebration of a career that has changed the very ways in which people encounter sound. As a composer, teacher, accordionist, pioneer of the philosophy of "deep listening," and luminary of the avant-garde, Oliveros left an indelible impression on the world of music.

Oliveros's invention of "deep listening," her influence in the development of experimental experimental electronic music through her involvement in the San Francisco Tape Music Center, her improvisatory work on the accordion and her dedication to musical teaching and writing altogether make her position in contemporary American music irreplaceable.
