Simone’s music was often labeled as jazz, but her genius defies the boundaries of genre. Artists such as Aretha Franklin, Lauryn Hill, and Tracy Chapman have cited her as an important influence. In fact, Simone was inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame in 2018.
