Tune in to this week's Musician's Show as we invite trumpeter Phil Grenadier to the station to program the show. He recently released a new album, Shimmer, on Fresh Sound/New Talent. This marks his third album as a leader, and he is joined by Will Slater on bass and Karen Kocharyan on drums. Phil began playing trumpet early in his childhood, and continued on to play in high school. By age 16 he was working as a sideman with artists such as Ella Fitzgerald and Mel Torme. At 17 he was ranked as the best jazz soloist by Down Beat. He later moved from his native San Francisco to New York, where he spent time performing with Owen Howard and Chris Potter, among others. Eventually he settled in Boston, where he has a working trio with whom he recorded his recent release. Over the years he has also performed and toured with John Scofield, Kenny Barron, Larry Goldings, Marc Copland, just to name a few. So check out this week's Musician's Show with Phil Grenadier to hear his musical influences and views on jazz.
