Sunday, August 10, 2014 - 2:00pm

Tune in this Sunday from 2pm-7pm to listen to a Jazz Profiles dedicated to João Gilberto. The show will encompass from his early and rare recordings before Bossa Nova to his most recent solo album released in 2000 along with relevant historical background. We will also feature exclusive WKCR interviews with important characters that were involved with João Gilberto such as his son Marcelo Gilberto, the producer Creed Taylor, one of the Tropicália artists Gilberto Gil, and the Bossa Nova composer and pianist Antonio Adolfo. Hosted by Augusto Ghiotto.

Born on June 10, 1931 in Juazeiro, state of Bahia, Brazil, João Gilberto Prado Pereira de Olviveira became known as the father of Bossa Nova and the creator of its original beat. With few of his own compositions, he reached fame with his interpretations with his unique voice and guitar. In this show, we will focus on his seminal album released in 1959, "Chega de Saudade", his recordings with Stan Getz and his later recordings with Gilberto Gil, Caetano Veloso and Maria Bethania.
