Jazz meets rock in this special interview with John Densmore, drummer of The Doors. Hosted by Rachel Smith on WKCR, the pre-recorded interview will air from 1:00 - 2:45 PM (ET), on Thursday, February 15, 2024 (during Rachel's regularly-scheduled Out to Lunch program).

Tune in to hear about how jazz inspired John, what he learned from Elvin Jones, and where you can hear traces of jazz on iconic Doors tracks. John also shares his insights into the relationship between music and commercialism.

From 12 noon - 1 PM, Rachel will recreate the L.A. jazz scene in which John grew up with records from the KCR library. The interview that will follow includes 5 tracks from The Doors catalog and 4 jazz tracks chosen by John and Rachel to demonstrate the influence of jazz on John’s music.
