2022 Programming Updates

Dear Listeners,

WKCR continues to change and adapt our schedule in line with our station's mission, vision, & values as well as our traditions. Please be advised that the following changes to our programming schedule are set to take place in September of 2022. Further updates and reminders will be provided on our social media accounts and on-air!

---

Monday Morningside (Monday, 8:30-9:30am): Campus-Area News Show

  • Starting on 9/12, the show will feature reporting by student journalists on current events at Columbia University and in and around Morningside Heights. Student segments will typically run in the 5-10 minute range, with a rotating group of hosts.

  • Birdflight will continue to air at 8:20 for four days a week, Tuesday through Friday, for the remainder of the year. A new show will come on Tuesdays in early 2023, while Birdflight continues on all other weekdays.

Sunday Profiles (Sunday, 2-7pm): “Jazz and beyond” profiles

  • With the return of the five-hour profiles slot, programmers will showcase longform profiles as they have done for decades. While the primary focus will remain jazz music, there will also be features on other styles and traditions from across WKCR’s different programming departments.

Sin Fronteras (Wednesday, 12-3pm): New Latin Jazz Show

  • In the Wednesday OTL slot (12-3 pm), we will be introducing a new Latin Jazz show (no name yet, but suggestions are encouraged). This show will be administered by the latin department, and will give students a chance to explore the gigantic world of latin jazz, as our first ever daytime student-hosted latin show

Workaround (Friday, 9-10pm): Student Live DJ Set

  • The show Workaround, which started this spring in the place of Firing Lion, will be made permanent, moving to Fridays at 9-10 pm. The show will be specifically for student DJ sets.

  • On that note, the wednesday 9-10 pm slot will join the regular rotation of NARTS shows

El Sonido de la Calle (Saturday Night, alternating 12:30-2am and 2-4am)

  • We will also be adding a new show especially for latin hip-hop (name also TBA). This will be a sister program to Notes from Underground, and the two will alternate time slots, sharing the Saturday night 12:30-2am and 2-4am slots.

  • Jazz 'till dawn will still run 4-6am for the time being

Sunday Night Rescheduling

  • The Sunday night IAL shows will get some space added to them, and not have to share slots.

  • The Post-Soviet Show (formerly the Balkan show, name TBA) will now be 11pm-12am; The Celtic Show will be 12-1 am, and CUT will be 1-3am

  • Monday Mornings in Mono will become an open jazz slot from 3-5am
