The two-hour program will explore the unique composition style of Papaioannou, whose work was selected for the festival out of over 1100 submissions from around the world, the music and methods of Ensemble neoN, a group out of Oslo making their U.S. debut with MATA festival and of which Amaral and Holen are members, select recordings from the artists including tracks from neonN’s forthcoming album, and more.

Helen Papaioannou will be playing the tenor saxophone in an improv trio with Matthew Welch and Ryan Muncy on April 14th at Trans-Pecos for MATA FUNHOUSE, a new addition to the MATA program for which Festival artists will join forces with like-minded bands and DJs in a split bill performance.

Ensemble neoN will be playing the world premier of Splinter, a composition by Helen Papaioannou, on the evening of Saturday, April 16th, at Dixon Place.
