Programmer Kat Whatley is joined by Duo YUMENO this Sunday November 6th on Morning Profiles for an overview of music made on the koto, a traditional Japanese transverse harp. Starting from classic traditional pieces all the way through to 21st century contemporary music inspired by Western classical music, this show will guide listeners through the many exciting forms of music played on the koto.

Featuring New York based koto / shamisen player and singer Yoko Reikano Kimura and cellist Hikaru Tamaki, Duo YUMENO is a koto and cello duo who make music inspired by tradition but with a contemporary sensibility. Duo YUMENO’s repertoire includes a dynamic range of compositions – both traditional and contemporary - all of which explore the dialogue between classical Japanese and western music.
