DJ Rashad Memorial Broadcast on Offbeat 5/2

DJ Rashad

On this week's Offbeat, we will be hosting a memorial broadcast for footwork pioneer Rashad Harden, better known as DJ Rashad, who passed away last Saturday, April 26. Born October 9, 1979, Rashad built his reputation as dancer in legendary crews like the House-O-Matics, played a pivotal role in juke's evolution from Chicago house, and co-founded two footwork crews, Ghettoteknitianz and Teklife, that brought the genre and its associated battle-dance worldwide fame. During his prolific and progressive 15-year career, he celebrated releases on the Dance Mania, Lit City Trax (the brainchild of Rashad and lifelong collaborator DJ Spinn), Ghettophiles, Juke Trax, and Hyperdub labels. Join us this Friday, May 2 from 1-5am EST as we commemorate Rashad and the footwork culture to which he devoted his life. Fellow footwork legends DJ Spinn, RP Boo, and Traxman will call in to speak about Rashad's life and share personal musical selections.
