Derek Bermel and Amy Beth Kirsten on Afternoon New Music

American Composers Orchestra continues its 10th anniversary season of Orchestra Underground at Carnegie Hall on Thursday, February 20 with "Lines on a Point." Artistic Director of ACO, composer Derek Bermel, will preview the concert which features Steve Reich's Eight Lines and the New York premiere of David Lang's statement to the court performed by ACO with Philadelphia-based chamber choir The Crossing. The concert also includes the world premieres of Amy Beth Kirsten’s strange pilgrims for orchestra and choir with video by Mark DeChiazza, and Lisa Renée Coons’ Vera’s Ghosts. Composer Amy Beth Kirsten, a singer-songwriter and recipient of a Guggenheim Fellowship and numerous other awards, joins Derek Bermel in the studio to talk about her new work for ACO, which she describes as "a meditation on creativity and its relationship to the spirit."
