A D.C. native, Cook grew up listening to Motown and jazz records, imbuing his playing with an R&B/ Soul sound that remains today. After playing in the 2009 Grammy Jazz Ensemble, Cook enrolled in Georgetown University to study English. He ultimately transferred to Juilliard to pursue music and graduated from there in 2015, having debuted his EP, Sketch, the previous year. Since completing his degree, Cook has released an album, Braxton Cook Meets Butcher Brown, taken up residence in Harlem and joined Grammy-nominated trumpeter Christian Scott’s group Stretch Music on their world tour.
