American soprano Ailyn Pérez has quickly established herself as one of the most promising lyric sopranos of our time. In 2012, Pérez became the first Hispanic recipient of the Richard Tucker Award, and she has just been announced as the 2016 Beverly Sills Award recipient. Although Pérez has already become a regular guest of almost every major opera company, last season was her first at The Metropolitan Opera, where she received rave reviews as Micaela in Bizet's Carmen. Shortly before concluding a run as Musetta in Puccini's La Boheme, Perez sat with WKCR programmer Stepan Atamian to discuss her burgeoning career and what the future holds for her. Tune in to Saturday Night At The Opera on Saturday, May 7th on WKCR 89.9 FM to hear an interview with Pérez and her singing in scenes from Carmen, Boheme, and Manon.
