The music of tenor saxophonist Wardell Grey, 1921-1955. Gray's premature death at the age of 34 cut short a rich career that began with his big break: a gig with Earl Hines' orchestra at age 21. Gray played with Bird, Benny Goodman, Earl Hines, Count Basie, and Dexter Gordon, among many others. For today's program we took a chronological look at his recorded legacy.
