Using the power of jazz to turn Saturday night into Sunday morning... includes an interstellar journey led by Dave Liebman, a visit to the bustling kitchen of chef Hamp, and a performance where John Coltrane makes "My Favorite Things" one of our favorite things. The latter half of the program focuses on the 1958 lineup of the Ornette Coleman Quintet (whose leader celebrated a birthday last week), taking their performance "Live at the Hillcrest Club" and playing it in full but interupted with flashes into the future of each of Ornette's sidemen that should inform our listening into the band's music and dynamic.
