Jazz drummer Art Blakey (October 11, 1919 - October 16 1990) is the subject of today's Jazz Profiles on WKCR. Blakey was highly influential and ground-breaking in his style, paving the way for many other ensembles. He is widely celebrated for his own ensembles too, chiefly Art Blakey and the Jazz Messengers. He is best known for his contributions in the genres of be-bop and hard-bop. Join us today as we observe Blakey's cannon across the decades.
