In this edition of Daybreak Express we explore the interactions of famous jazz musicians through the equally influential, but convieniently consistent, form of the blues. Perhaps the musicians played in the same band, on the same date, with the same rhythm section, or with a similar stylistic philosophy. We will see what Wayne Shorter, John Coltrane, Art Blakey, and Grant Green have in common, and also, how Cedar Walton ties Christian McBride to the Jazz Messengers heritage. This endeavor highlights the importance of jazz as a collective tradition.
