Paul Jones for the Musician's Show

Wednesday, October 11, 2017 - 6:00pm to 9:00pm

Tune in to the Musician’s Show this Wednesday, October 11 from 6-9 PM ET for a live interview with saxophonist and composer Paul Jones. Hailed as a “force to be reckoned with” (StepTempest), Jones is creating his own brand of unique and stylized jazz and is an in-demand sideman in the US and abroad. With a singing yet dark toned saxophone coloring Paul creates music that is based in the history of jazz and classical music while infusing elements from the modern pop aesthetic. Making music that is challenging and complex while remaining attainable as a simple song is the crux behind Paul’s musical world. Short History, his recent debut album as a leader, received a four-star rating from Downbeat Magazine; the recording was noted for showcasing his melodic yet gutsy playing while highlighting his individual harmonic stylings and varied literary and musical influences. Earlier this year Jones released Clean, his second album as a leader, which draws from influences as diverse as contemporary hip-hop, 20th-century minimalism and leading-edge jazz. Both heady and heartfelt, Jones’ compositions may be sparked by a literary turn of phrase or the unexpected passing of a close friend, always finding unique ways to overlay the emotional onto the intellectual.
