Wernick is best known for his work in the legendary Bluegrass band Hot Rize. In 1963, as an undergraduate at Columbia, Wernick started WKCR’s first Bluegrass show. In the interview, Wernick will discuss the early days of bluegrass on WKCR, his experiences with hosting live sets with David Grisman and Bill Monroe, the New York City Bluegrass scene in the early 1960s, and how his time at WKCR shaped his development as a professional musician.
