Lucine Amara Interview Part 1

Submitted by Stepan Atamian on Sun, 2 Aug 2015, 10:57pm

An exclusive interview with beloved Metropolitan Opera star Lucine Amara. With stunning musicality and remarkable technique, the Armenian-American soprano was a stalwart performer at the Met who sang leading roles ranging from Gluck to Britten (and everything in between) for over 40 years. Even at ninety, Ms. Amara remains active as the Artistic Director of the New Jersey Association of Verismo Opera. In this interview, Ms. Amara looks back at her spectacular career, discusses her work today, and the extraordinary importance of belly breathing.

This interview was conducted at Ms. Amara's apartment on July 18, 2015, less than two weeks after Ms. Amara had appeared as La Duchesse de Krakenthorp in the Martina Arroyo Foundation's performance of La Fille du Regiment. Special thanks to her daughter Evelyn La Quaif and Elisabeth Stam.
