WKCR programmer Kally Patz interviews Zvi Gotheiner, the artistic director of Zvi Dance. Gotheiner grew up in Northern Israel where he studied the violin with the Young Kibbutzim Orchestra until he began studying dance at the age of 17. He has performed with Joyce Trisler Dance Company, Feld Ballets/NY, and Bat Sheva Dance Company. He also directed Tamar Ramle and Jerusalem Tamar Dance Company in Israel before founding Zvi Dance in New York. Zvi Dance will perform Gotheiner's latest work, Escher/Bacon/Rothko at New York Live Arts between Wednesday, June 24th and Saturday, June 27th. Inspired by the art of M.C. Escher, Francis Bacon, and Mark Rothko, the piece explores different perspectives on modernity. Gotheiner discusses transitioning from classical music to dance, moving to New York, and becoming a choreographer.
