Previously unsuccessful in gaining admission to any U.S medical school; Be committed to practice in an underserved community; Come from an educationally and/or economically disadvantaged background; Undergraduate degree from an accredited U.S college or university; Have a minimum science GPA of 2.7 or higher; For students who took the MCAT 2012-2014 or later, have a minimum combined score of 20; For students who took the MCAT 2015, have a minimum combined score of 491; Submit three (3) Letters of Recommendation; Applicants must be a legal resident of California or provide documentation of approved eligibility of approved eligibility for the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) in the State of California.

Description

The David Geffen School of Medicine at UCLA offers a comprehensive, structured re-application program designed to assist students from disadvantaged backgrounds who have been unsuccessful in gaining admission to any U.S medical school. RAP is an 11-month program that is conducted in two sessions.  The Summer sessions begins June to July and the Academic year session that runs from September through May for each cohort.

The Summer program begins with an intensive six-week summer session, focused upon prerequisite science review and on MCAT preparation. Distinguished guest lecturers will also provide seminars and workshops discussing; academic skills; extensive and lively reviews of biology, chemistry, and physics; self-development, time management; financial planning; medical school re-application, and interviewing skills.  Current medical students and former RAP participants provide supporting mentoring and meetings to RAP students.

An individualized academic-year program that consists of a science curriculum will follow. Participants, in close consultation with program advisors, will select their courses through UCLA Extension or a local California State University. Medical school re-application preparation and strategies will be conducted individually. Mock interviews will be conducted and videotaped for participant evaluation and feedback. During the academic year segment, students will meet regularly with program advisors and mentors. Occasionally, the RAP program makes recommendations that will require more than the 11 months to strengthen the participant’s application to medical school.   In such cases, we continue to monitor the progress of these candidates after the 11 months program to assure completion.
