A Message from Columbia Health

Columbia Health is pleased to welcome you to our campus community!

Moving to college represents a significant step towards adulthood and the beginning of a new phase in your life. It’s an exciting journey of discovery, learning, and growth, but it may begin with a period of stress and transition.

Adapting to this will require you to hone your time management skills as you work to juggle the new pressures of your academic responsibilities and social commitments.  Over the course of this experience, you are bound to face obstacles and setbacks, and it’s important to know where and when to turn to for assistance.

Columbia Health is here to help you. We offer an abundance of resources aimed to support the well-being –physically and mentally – of the campus community.  The following is an overview of some of the programs and services that are available should you ever need our support:

  • Counseling and Psychological Services (CPS) is available to any student who wishes to discuss issues ranging from how to better organize study time to concerns with relationships to anxiety and depression.  A staff of psychologists, psychiatrists, social workers, psychiatric residents, and fellows in psychology are equipped to help you cope with a wide range of problems and concerns. Please be assured that CPS adheres to strict standards of confidentiality.
  • Disability Services (DS) is another valuable resource for students with all types of disabilities including physical, learning, AD/HD, sensory, psychological, and chronic health conditions.  DS supports your student by providing appropriate, reasonable accommodations that facilitate academic and physical access to Columbia’s programs and activities.
  • Columbia Health’s Go Ask Alice! Health Promotion seeks to make students and the University community healthier by connecting individuals and groups with information and resources, cultivating healthy attitudes and behaviors, promoting health supporting policy, and fostering a culture that values and supports health. The Go Ask Alice! website has a vast archive of health-related information and Q&A with Columbia students.

We look forward to officially welcoming you to campus in August. Until then, we hope you have a happy and healthy summer!
