Senior Marshal
Su Izmir Ertekin-Taner CC’26 is being recognized for her leadership in editorial spaces and academic research at Columbia. She was deputy editor of opinion projects at the Columbia Daily Spectator, where she led an archival initiative in Columbia’s collections, produced a podcast addressing campus concerns, and oversaw Discourse and Debate, a forum for student and faculty opinion. Through this work, she expanded platforms for campus dialogue. As editor-in-chief emeritus of the Columbia Review, the nation’s oldest literary magazine, she launched an interview series featuring leading contemporary writers, including Pulitzer Prize and National Book Award recipients.She also worked at the Writing Center, supporting students across a wide range of projects, with particular attention to sociological research and English language learners. There, she emphasized pedagogical approaches that center writer agency. In addition, Ertekin-Taner conducted research on gender minorities with faculty at Princeton and Columbia, reflecting a sustained commitment to the quantitative study of gender and population dynamics.
