Sophie Abla Flore Agbekpenou SEAS’26 is being recognized for her contributions to Columbia’s campus community and student organizations. As head of Afropolitan of the African Student Association, Agbekpenou took on one of Columbia’s most visible traditions. The annual showcase uses art, food, and culture to explore the full diversity of the African continent, engaging the entire Columbia community. As treasurer of the National Society of Black Engineers, she secured corporate sponsors, managed national convention logistics, and established funding partnerships that expanded professional opportunities for students. Sophie has also served as a RA for Carlton Arms and as a TA for discrete math, AI, and the Emerging Scholars Program, ensuring her peers could thrive socially and academically. She completed her B.S. in computer science with an entrepreneurship minor. In every role, Agbekpenou has worked to build structures and spaces that will serve students long after her graduation.
“I thank my family and friends, who have always been there to celebrate with me and remind me why the work matters. Thank you for your unwavering support and for always being a thoughtful sounding board through it all. None of this would have felt as meaningful without the people who show up for me every step of the way!”
