Sasha Maroulis CC’26 majored in psychology and concentrated in business management. He is being recognized for his dedication to building community and supporting peers at Columbia. Maroulis’ academics have focused on how people shape one another, with research on emotion regulation between friends and a short dissertation on how social norms influence behavior in shared spaces. At Columbia, and as a visiting student at Oxford, he organized gatherings that connected people who might not otherwise have met. As social chair of the Columbia Federalist, he arranged group outings, sports activities, and celebrations. He hosts game nights, cooks with friends, runs with them in Riverside Park, talks over tea, and goes to concerts and restaurants all over the city, developing lifelong relationships through listening, support, and shared experiences. Maroulis hopes that his efforts to foster community and be there for friends will encourage future Columbia students to do the same.
“Thank you to Mama, Papa, Peter, Sophia, Rohini, and Tasya and Bug for getting me to this point with your love and support! Thanks to all my Columbia friends for the great conversations about the Core, life after college, and all the other good nonsense. Your diverse backgrounds, intellectual curiosity, and admirable accomplishments have pushed me to be a more thoughtful and intentional person.”
