Senior Marshal
Originally from Mexico City and now living in Miami, Fla., Samuel Andrés Cano Cabrera CC’26 is graduating with a degree in political science and economics and a minor in film and media studies. Over four years on the Columbia College Student Council, he served as president of the Class of 2026 for two years, VP for finance, and ultimately student body president. In these roles, Cano helped advance major improvements to undergraduate life, including expanded dining access, a new gym, a future medical center, and increased academic support and staffing. He was also part of the student leadership group that successfully advocated for Commencement to return to campus and served on the University president’s student advisory group, helping represent undergraduate priorities at the highest levels of University leadership. Beyond student government, Cabrera served as an RA in both Carman Hall and East Campus, supporting students through some of the most formative years of their Columbia experience. He is honored to receive the Senior Marshal Award in recognition of his dedication to strengthening the Columbia community through compassion, inclusion, and leadership. Reflecting on his time at Columbia, Cabrera is most proud of the community he helped build and the relationships that will remain with him long after graduation. He intends to continue his studies in strategic communications and aspires to a career in media relations.
