Marie Tarazi CC’26, from Palestine, studied applied mathematics on the pre-health track, focusing on computational biology and mathematical modeling. She is recognized for building inclusive, cross-cultural communities at Columbia. As co-president of Friends of Doctors Without Borders and a former president of CU Turath, she created spaces that united students in conversations on global health and cultural identity, highlighting the breadth of humanitarian medicine. These galas, the first of their kind on campus, invited students to engage directly with speakers, including physicians from conflict zones. Tarazi also organized panels on issues at the intersection of international policy and global health, featuring high-profile speakers such as former UN Security Council presenters and the former president of Doctors Without Borders. As o-chair of the Global Recruitment Committee, she led the digital e-card initiative, which was adopted by other admissions committees. A three-time New Student Orientation Leader, she supported students beyond their arrival, serving as a consistent source of guidance as they navigate academics, community, and identity at Columbia. Whether through science or service, she seeks to bridge disciplines and cultures by building communities rooted in care and lasting impact.
“First and foremost, I thank my parents, whose endless encouragement and guidance allowed the eight-year-old girl who dreamed of Sophie Germain to grow into the person I am today. I am deeply grateful to my mentors, dear friends, and community, whose support sustained me throughout my time at Columbia.”
