Columbia Spirit
Senior Marshal
Kira Banerjee Ratan CC’26 hails from Westchester, N.Y., and studied history and public health on a pre-law track. Ratan dedicated her time on campus to embodying the values inherent to a Columbia education, including curiosity, leadership, and being a power for greater good in the world. She remains committed to leading others with integrity, kindness, and ambition both inside and outside of the classroom. Inside the classroom, she has led by example while producing her senior thesis for the history department acting not only as a peer to other thesis writers but also as a mentor for other students interested in pursuing historical research. Outside the classroom, she has built community through clubs, organizations, and front-facing roles as an ambassador for the University. Whether through serving on the Leadership Team of the Undergraduate Recruitment Committee, chairing the Columbia History Association, or leading the Columbia Undergraduate Law Review as editor-in-chief, Ratan holds the fundamental spirit of Columbia close and will continue to do so long after she graduates. She will enroll as a J.D. candidate at Georgetown Law in the Fall as a member of the Class of 2029. She hopes to pursue public interest law and civil rights advocacy.
“I am deeply grateful to have called Columbia home for the last four years and to have had the opportunity to be a part of so many different communities here. Thank you to my mom, dad, and brother for being my rocks and my biggest inspirations. Thank you to my friends, professors, and mentors at Columbia, too, who have kept me afloat and encouraged me to never stop fighting for what I believe in.”
