Award Recognition
Community Building
Jude Fairchild CC’26 is recognized for his leadership in strengthening the artistic community at Columbia. Over the last two years, working alongside Dean Josef Sorett, he has contributed to programming marking the 50th anniversary of hip-hop, bringing artists such as Lupe Fiasco, Pete Rock, and Kirk Franklin into conversation with students, faculty, and the broader community. As founder of Morningside Art Exchange (est. 2023), Fairchild created a platform that connects artists with audiences on campus and across Morningside Heights and Harlem. Through events and partnerships with institutions including Columbia’s Wallach Art Gallery, and Sister’s Uptown Bookstore, he has expanded access to the arts and created opportunities for community building through shared experience. In recognition of his impact, he was awarded a $5,000 grant from the Harlem Commonwealth Council. Across his efforts, he continues to reimagine how institutions and communities can come together through art.
“I thank my family, friends, and everyone who has shown up and believed in me and in what we are building. Morningside Art Exchange was not built alone. This recognition reflects that collective effort, and it belongs to the people behind it.”
