Principled Action
Dorit Shendelman CC’26 studied biology with undergraduate research centering on understanding the mechanisms behind cell death and employing it to treat cancer. She was active on campus through her work as a TA for the biological sciences department, where she ran weekly recitations for genetics. A believer in the Core Curriculum, Shendelman enjoyed taking courses in the French, creative writing, and dance departments. She volunteers with a number of nonprofits, raising awareness for rare diseases, and tutors children in the Morningside Heights community through the Harlem Link public charter school. Shendelman is interested in pursuing medicine. She was involved in several campus clubs, including the Columbia Space Initiative and CU Iranian Student Association, and has presented original art at campus showcases. A native New Yorker, Shendelman enjoys frequenting a range of NYC museums and cultural experiences.
“I am deeply grateful to my mother, Shoshana, and my sister, Talia, for their endless love and support. I also like to thank my friends, classmates, professors, and everyone at The Stockwell Laboratory for the ways that they have shaped my learning these past four years — I would not be the same person without their insights and guidance.”
