Danielle Maydan SEAS’26 studied computer science and pursued the pre-medical track. Throughout her time at Columbia, she has been grateful to have had the opportunity to both pursue her passion for scientific research and engage with the greater NYC community through volunteering. In addition to assistant teaching an adult GED course and volunteering at Community Lunch, Maydan served as co-president of the student executive board of Community Impact, an organization that oversees much of the campus’ service efforts. She is also grateful to have had the opportunity to care for Columbia community members as an EMT with Columbia University Emergency Medical Service. A Goldwater Scholar, Maydan conducted computational biology research at the Dana Pe’er Lab, where she used machine learning to examine questions of biological and clinical relevance. She plans to pursue an M.D. and aspires to become a physician-researcher.
“I am extraordinarily grateful to my mentors, professors, friends, and family for their unwavering support, kindness, and encouragement. I feel incredibly lucky to learn from such inspiring people every day.”
