Award Recognition

Emerging Leader
Ahmed Alaa-Eldin Hamdan CC’28 is studying biochemistry and statistics. He is being recognized with the Emerging Leader Award for his contributions to the research community, particularly through his work in the Cornish Lab, where he develops novel therapeutics using chemical biology approaches. In the lab, Hamdan has taken initiative in mentoring newer students and helping create a collaborative environment where complex research becomes more accessible. Prior to Columbia, he conducted computational research on Parkinson’s disease, developing machine learning models aimed at improving equitable and cost-effective diagnosis. He is also involved with the CC/SEAS Academic Integrity Student Advisory Board, where he supports efforts to promote ethical scholarship across campus. Hamdan is driven by a curiosity for both science and impact, and is always looking for new ways to connect research with meaningful improvements in patient care, often by asking one more question and going one step further than expected.
“I am deeply honored to receive this recognition for my contributions to the Columbia community. This journey would not have been possible without the unwavering support of my family, professors, and mentors. I am incredibly grateful to be part of such an inspiring community. If there is one idea I hope to carry forward, it is this: ‘Go as far as you can see; when you get there, you’ll be able to see further.’”
